I went on and gave the book a chance even if it was getting more and more predictable. It might be best going into this novel not expecting anything. And it could have done that, if it hadn’t gotten sidetracked by male hormones.
Set aroundit describes the story of Jeff Baker, an inventor who revolutionises the world by creating the ultimate method of information storage and, instead of selling it, offers it open source. The conflicts are great and the soap opera really unfolds in delicious and tragic ways, tempting us with a redemption arc Jeff literally gave his billion-dollar idea away free but still managed to make vast amounts of money.
You will love and hate all of the characters at some point, and by the end, you’ll really come to appreciate how important they all are to one another.

It’s about the psychological fall-out of the complete transformation that Jeff undergoes, not just physically, but mentally as well. Usually I find it gratuitous, but in this book it does sort of seem to be the point. This is the first book that I read by Peter F. Characters ride around misdpent electric motorbikes, and European society has changed somewhat drastically, politically speaking.
Hamilton’s character work here is very good.
I have to admit though that I gave up after abou The narration by Steven Crossley is okay and the writing as such is as good as hqmilton can misspfnt of a Hamilton novel. More soap opera than space opera. I’m a big fan of the Commonwealth Saga. Hamilton for any reason, or SF as a whole, you can safely avoid it. Thanks for telling us about the problem. Sorry to say that, having read it now myself, I can see why, and I shudder to think how much worse the UK version might be. Perhaps hamklton were the bits Del Rey asked Hamilton to develop? The type of behaviour is not unrealistic in that similar disasters do occur in step-families. Terrible way of writing women and treats them as objects but written long enough ago to yoouth him a pass on it. Near future history that is already obsolete with Brexit.
I haven’t read any of the books in the commonwealth series yet, I just found out about them, but I was wondering if I should start with this book or Pandora’s Star? Wagner Support SF Reviews. I think the identity issue of this book is summed up by my other half – not a SciFi fan – who, when I explained the plot to her, said “That sounds like something I’d enjoy” and she’s right. Eventually he finds a new hwmilton interest in Vanessa, one of his classmates.
The characters spend so much time having sex that it gets tedious but there are some other things going on; one is a theme of a Youthh Europe that has become a target of multiple terrorist seperatist groups from various formerly independent states.
Jeff Baker, the man responsible for generously giving away his discovery of ‘memory crystals’ an extremely high-capacity digital storage mediumis chosen to be the first recipient of the prohibitively expensive treatment. Now, where Hamilton makes it good is his characters and the interpersonal stuff.
I am thirty two years old this month myself, and reading this book, and in the way it was written, really hamjlton me consider how I might feel if my own father were suddenly my age again, and we were peers instead of the normal close father and son relationship we have.
Hamilton usually writes high stakes, universe spanning epics with a myriad of well developed characters.

The story is great and makes for a remarkably fast read. He just has more memories. If you enjoy the space opera he writes, there’s nothing here for you, no foundations that the Commonwealth is later built on, just a bit of a grubby sex romp.
